Department of Communication & English - Curriculum

The curriculum for the Bachelor of Arts in Communication offers students the opportunity to gain expertise in a variety of media and communication areas by selecting specific tracks of courses to focus on: Visual Communication, which includes video and digital media production courses; Film and Communication History and Theory, and Writing for the Media, either in journalism or in film, television or new media; networking and publicity, including marketing, media administration, public relations etc. The aim of the curriculum is to prepare students, through a progression of both theoretical and practical courses, for international careers in any of the above specializations. Graduates with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication may go on to graduate studies, or pursue careers in both the public and private sectors of employment: private industries, multinational corporations, non-governmental, federal and international agencies, in the news media or in the film and television industries.

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication requires successful completion of 120 credits made up of a 42 credit general education requirement, a 60 credit major and 18 credits of free electives. Students must achieve a cumulative grade point average of no less than 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and earn at least a C grade (2.0) in every course in the major (60 credits).

Students working towards a B.A. in Communication may also obtain a Laurea Triennale (Italian undergraduate degree) in Scienze della Comunicazione from the Universita degli Studi di Macerata by including a certain selection of language and law courses in their electives and by focusing on certain other courses in their General Education and upper level Communication choices. A €500 registration fee payable to Macerata University will apply. Further information is available from academic advisors.
