IR Club organizes meeting with former Italian President
By Nicola Sciasci

On Thursday October 18 a group of six AUR students, Alessandra Bresnan, Cait Bagby, Elise Dearborn, Lyndsay Krebs, Nicola Sciasci, and Kyle Oliveria, as well as, Professor James Walston, was part of the studio audience of RAI-International’s 8th debate in the “ITALIA WORLD” series.

The principal guest was former Italian President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro; the rest of the panel was made up of the Italian parliamentarians representing Italians abroad, Senator Claudio Micheloni (Europe) and deputies Ricardo Antonio Merlo (South America), Marco Fedi (Australia), and Salvatore Ferrigno (North America) and Yossi Bar from the Foreign Press Association. It was a recorded event that will be aired next Friday, 26th of October.

The hour-long event talked about the Anti-Politics or Anti-Politica movement that is taking place in Italy. Anchorman Piero Badaloni asked the audience, which was made up of students from Italian universities here in Rome as well as The American University of Rome, to express their opinion whether it was politics or the media that was corrupted.

This program was a window into the life of Italian politicians in action. It also allowed students to see politicians in real life, having to think situations through and to see the less dramatic side of them as well.
