The American University of Rome is committed to excellence in education and the promotion of cross-cultural exchange. AUR is dedicated to encouraging academic achievement in its students and offers a curriculum designed to complement our high academic standards and ensure an active-learning environment with small student: faculty ratio.

Founded in 1969, The American University of Rome is the oldest degree-granting American university in Rome.

The University is located in a prestigious area of Rome on the crest of the Janiculum, Rome’s highest hill, just a few minutes walk from the historical Trastevere district. Administrative offices, computer labs, a student lounge and classrooms are found in a four-storey villa. Adjacent to the villa, a five-storey building houses the library, faculty offices, classrooms, a science lab, darkroom and non-linear editing suite. Off-campus facilities include an art studio, design and architecture studios and nearby faculty and administrative offices.

AUR aims to be a top-quality institution of higher learning that represents the best of the American approach to education and prepares students to live and work across cultures. An education at The American University of Rome aims to ensure that our students will be well-educated, self-confident and internationally aware.

The University is located near the renowned American Academy of Rome and close by the Villa Sciarra and Villa Doria Pamphili, two large city parks. The neighborhood surrounding AUR offers a full range of amenities including restaurants, shops, cafes and an outdoor market. Several bus lines connect it to the center of Rome. located near the ancient Roman road Via Aurelia Antica and Porta San Pancrazio, the University is also accessible by car.
