Prof. Paolo Crocchiolo
- Adjunct Faculty
- Laurea di Dottore, Diploma di Specializzazione, Università degli Studi di Milano
Professor Crocchiolo has taught, at AUR, Ethics and Global Policies since Spring 2000, and Evolutionary Biology since Fall 2005.
The first two decades of his professional career were devoted to medical practice and teaching, as well as to biomedical research, as intern, resident and, subsequently, consultant, at Milan’s State University Clinics (1969-1986), as expert of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and coordinator of the Italian Health Cooperation Programme with Zimbabwe (1980-1982), as Director of the Transmissible Diseases Department at Lodi’s Ospedale Maggiore (1986-1992), and as Senior Medical Officer at Geneva’s WHO Headquarters’ Global Programme on AIDS (1988-1992), and Programme on Substance Abuse (1992-1993). As a result of this period, he published 107 scientific papers regarding biomedical and public health issues.
The second two decades of his professional career were devoted to Public Health and Political Sciences, mainly based on his United Nations experience (as a member of the Board of Directors of Latium’s Public Health Agency [2000-2003] and as chairman of the Italian Drug Forum’s Scientific Committee [2001-2008]), as well as to research in the field of Evolutionary Biology and the Neurosciences, which resulted in a series of articles and editorials published on different Italian newspapers and scientific magazines, as well as in a number of contributions to national and international conferences, concerning drug policies, HIV/AIDS policies, and the biological/historical/philosophical background underlying current ethical visions and approaches.
In addition, Dr. Crocchiolo has recently authored three books on the Biology of the Human Mind, i.e., The Amorous Tinder, The Touch of Life, and The Brave Booby, that were published, respectively, in 2004, 2005, and 2009: all raised a considerable interest and were amply debated and reviewed in some of the main Italian newspapers (Il Corriere della Sera and Il Sole 24 Ore) and mews-magazines (L’Espresso). The English versions of the Amorous Tinder and The Touch of Life were published in the United States respectively in 2006 and 2011, and were reviewed by EO Wilson, A Damasio, V Johnston (Website: Davies Group Publishers – Contemporary European Cultural Studies).
