On December 5th, The American University of Rome and the United States Embassy to Italy were proud to host a Holiday Party at Villa Sciarra. Not only did this party provide great entertainment by The Amazing Grace Gospel Choir (directed by The American University of Rome’s professor Timothy Martin), it also offered a unique opportunity to raise funds for “La Biblioteca dei bambini e dei ragazzi Le Balate di Palermo”, a library for underprivileged children in the heart of Palermo.
This event was a great success. Close to 100 guests enjoyed an aperitivo followed by opening remarks by Andrew Thompson, Executive Vice President and Provost of The American University of Rome and a consistent supporter of library events within the community. Among the many special guests were Stephen Anderson, Press Officer and Spokesman for the United States Embassy, and Donatella Natoli, Library Director for La Biblioteca delle Balate. A medley of holiday favourites such as “Joy to the World” and “The First Noel” was performed by The Amazing Grace Gospel Choir with inspired direction by Timothy Martin.
There was a charity book drive held in conjunction with the Holiday Party to help raise funds for La Biblioteca delle Balate in Palermo. Over 400 books were donated and then “sold” to party guests in exchange for a donation to La Biblioteca.
Overall, this event was a great chance to celebrate the holiday season while raising money for an excellent cause. The organizers would like to thank everyone who attended.
