Thursday, September 19,
2006: The AUR Wolves kicked off the 2006-2007
soccer season last night. The game against La
Sapienza was attended and enjoyed by 50 fans and
was played on the rival’s home field near Tor
di Quinto. After some initial nervousness, the
Wolves – with their line-up consisting of 50%
new players and a new coach, Roberto Capata –
showed their true claws and played an excellent
game offering a tough resistance to La Sapienza,
who had to run to a couple of dirty tricks to
keep the Wolves off their goal.
La Sapienza ended up scoring the only goal of
the game that therefore finished 1-0. Nonetheless,
the Wolves and the new Mister, Roberto, can be
very proud of their performance.
The Wolves would like to thank the fans (including
Dr. Resch and his wife and Mara and Marita) for
showing their support by coming to the field despite
the cool evening. Naturally, the AUR community
thanks the team for the great performance and
wishes them “in bocca al lupo” for the upcoming
season. We all look forward to seeing ALL the
AUR fans at the game next week, when the Wolves
face their “arch-rival”, JCU Gladiators, on our
homefield, at Viale della Vasca Navale 100.
The AUR Wolves

This coming semester for the second time, our
men’s soccer team “THE WOLVES”
is participating in the CAMPIONATO DI CALCIO DELLE
UNIVERSITA’ ROMANE, an intercollegiate tournament
sponsored by the municipality of Rome. The first
edition of the tournament was launched in October
2005 and finished off in May 2006; 7 Roman Universities
– AUR, Erasmus, JCU, LUISS, La Sapienza,
Roma Tre and University of Malta – competed
for the winning trophy.
The final match of the tournament was transmitted
on a private network and The Wolves, who exceeded
everyone’s expectations and ranked third
of seven teams, were recognized at the university
Farewell Reception at Castel Sant’Angelo.
The trophy is now in the AUR trophy Cabinet.
Tryouts for the AUR team will be held during
Sep. 2006 and the tournament will start in the
second half of October. Practices are held on
Mondays 7.30-9.30pm and Fridays 3-5pm on the field
“Dopolavoro Cotral” on Via della Vasca
Navale 100.
MOST IMPORTANTLY THE GAMES! Our games are every
Wednesday. There is a bus that leaves from the
Archi Bar to take the fans. It leaves at around
7.15pm every Wednesday (signs will be posted on
Student Life bulletin board!).

Soccer @ AUR
Spring 2006: For the first time in AUR’s
history, our men’s soccer team is participating
in the CAMPIONATO DI CALCIO DELLE UNIVERSITA’
ROMANE, a newly founded intercollegiate tournament
sponsored by the municipality of Rome. The tournament
was launched in October and will finish off in
May 2006; 7 Roman universities – AUR, Erasmus,
JCU, LUISS, La Sapienza, Roma Tre and University
of Malta – are competing for the winning
trophy.
Tryouts for the AUR team were held on Sep. 14th
and after tough selection 24 players (both residents
and study-abroad students) were chosen. The team
played six games going 2-4 before the break.
After the break, it was time to play again. After
a few departures from study-abroad students tryouts
were held again. So much talent was on the field
made it hard to let go some players but after
a tough selection 10 new players were selected
to add on to 14 players from last semester. This
semester's team has alot of "GRINTA"
(determination) and it will be a very exciting
year for AUR soccer, and AUR fans.
For those of you who would like to watch the team
train, practices are held on Monday's 7.30-8.30pm
on the field on Lungotevere Dante and on Thursday's
8.00-9.30pm at Roma Uno on Viale Trastevere.
MOST IMPORTANTLY THE GAMES! Our games are every
wednesday. There is a bus that leaves from the
Archi Bar to take the fans. It leaves at around
7.15pm every wednesday (check signs on Student
Services bulletin board!)
