AUR RECOGNIZED BY MIDDLE STATES
University admitted to candidacy for MSCHE regional
accreditation, to complement its full accreditation by ACICS
14 March 2008: Following a Middle States Applicant Assessment Team Visit in November 2007 at which the Team’s Report stated that The American University of Rome meets each of the fourteen accreditation standards of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), the Commission voted to admit AUR to candidate status. We are, thus, proud to make the following statement, using the exact words prescribed by Middle States policy:
| Effective March 13, 2008, The American University of Rome is a candidate for accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104; (215) 662–5606. Candidacy for Accreditation is a status of affiliation with a regional accrediting commission which indicates that an institution has achieved initial recognition and is progressing toward, but is not assured of, accreditation. It has provided evidence that it meets all eligibility requirements, that it meets all or nearly all of the Commission’s standards for accreditation at a minimal (or higher) level, and that it appears to have the potential for attaining its goals within a reasonable time. |
The University has been invited to proceed to the last and final phase by the staff of the MSCHE. AUR is planning to do so on an expedited basis, based on the certification that we already have fully met each and every one of the fourteen accreditation standards listed in Characteristics of Excellence.
The American University of Rome is pleased to add these credentials from a regional accrediting agency to its full accreditation by the American Council of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), a national accrediting body, held by AUR since 1992.
Both MSCHE and ACICS are accrediting agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education and both are recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
