The First Year Program at AUR
The First Year Program of The American University of Rome helps you thrive while encouraging your academic and personal commitment.
Congratulations! You have made it! You have successfully gone through our admissions process, competed against many other students from all over the world and you are now a part of The American University of Rome.
Transition to College is a very important moment in your life and the years you will spend at university will change you in so many different ways. College is about getting an education but it is also much more than that. It is about creating lifelong bonds, challenging your thoughts and beliefs, finding your passions, what makes your heart sing. College is also about belonging. It is an experience you will never forget and that you will carry with you wherever you go and whatever you do.
The First Year Program is designed to encourage you to become active participants in The American University of Rome community and help ensure your successful college experience. You will develop the fundamental skills of writing, information literacy, IT, communication and oral presentations, and put them into practice through the exploration of various cultural and multicultural themes.
You will also be encouraged to work on your personal development thanks to experts who will come to class. You will participate to social events on and off campus as part of the Program.
You will take onsite classes (including a cooking class), meet upper class students, staff and faculty members who will work with you to make you feel an integral part of our community.
And last but not least, you will be supported by a great team of Peer Mentors. They will have a lot of tips for you about AUR and about Rome. They will be a great asset for you and will surely contribute to make this experience a wonderful one!!

“After different experiences in my life in which I have faced diverse situations, now I can confidently say that I am really motivated. I always try to see the final results of what I do in order to be motivated and structured to achieve my goals. Here at AUR self-motivation is one of the most important aspects in order to succeed during your university career. So I believe that I will be able to support first time in college students in order to give them advice to keep their motivation high. I will try to foster their understanding of the university system. I will try to make everything clear to you being next to you and ready to answer any questions you might have about the university and Rome.”
Sophomore | Business and Administration (Concentration Marketing) | Library Assistant | Current Peer Mentor | Originally from Rome, Italy
“I am sophomore at AUR, and I came to this university after having attended Italian schools here in Rome. As my mother is American and my father was Italian, I have a bi-cultural background, enabling me to offer new students insight into how things work at AUR and how to really get the most of exploring the wonders of this “Eternal City.” One of the first words of advice for those of you who have just arrived at AUR is to be flexible and open towards your new experiences here. I am very happy to be of assistance to you and help out with any questions you may have!”
