On the 23rd March 2017, Professor Davor Džalto, Associate Professor and Program Director for Art History and Religious Studies and Director of the M.A. Peace Studies program, presented his latest publication to press, media and public in Belgrade.
Art as Tautology (Umetnost kao tautologija) is published by Clio, the Belgrade-based academic publisher, in December 2016. The book explores the phenomenon of self-referentiality in the 20th century art. The author analyzes self-referential (tautological) artistic strategies in Conceptual Art (Joseph Kosuth and Art & Language), Minimal Art (Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Carl Andre and Frank Stella), Abstract Expressionism (Ad Reinhardt), and Performance Art (Gilbert & George, Jozef Beuys, Keith Arnatt).
The book presentation took place at the City of Belgrade cultural center “Parobrod” and Professor Džalto was joined by Zoran Hamovic, director and editor-in-chief of the Clio publishing house and Dr Irina Subotic, professor emerita of art history.
