Department of Art & Humanities
Archeology to Abstract Art; Conservation to Cubism; Latin to Life Drawing; the Department of Arts and Humanities offers an exciting selection of courses with broad appeal. Through three majors (Archeology and Classical Heritage; Art History; Interdisciplinary Studies) and four minors, our students have the opportunity to explore a wide range of topics in the Liberal Arts. Our courses take maximum advantage of the city of Rome ’s unique position within the Western tradition and utilize the University’s location close to the city center to give many classes on-site. A number of courses also have excursions to other locations in and around Europe. The Bachelor of Arts degree in Archeology and Classical Heritage began in January 2009. This new degree program integrates study of classical civilization and Rome with practical archeology and stewardship of our archeological heritage. The degree program in Art History provides a rigorous education focused on Western and neighboring visual cultures from ancient to modern. The curriculum in Interdisciplinary Studies is recommended for those whose interests do not fall under a single conventional heading, as it allows students, in conjunction with their academic advisors, to tailor their studies into areas of particular interest. Majors in other disciplines can extend their studies with minors in Archeology, Art History, Classical Studies and Classical Heritage, and Fine Arts. Going on field trips can also earn credit: we offer one credit courses to a number of major centers around Europe.
Our courses give students the opportunity to acquire valuable professional skills that will prepare them for the modern market-place. The thorough training offered by our three degree programs prepares students for both Graduate School and a variety of professional careers.
