Art History Program
The Art History program will develop in students majoring in art history:
• perceptual analysis of the visual arts
• the ability to situate a work of art in its historical and cultural context
• critical method and research skills for historically informed reception
• effective oral and written communication skills within the context of the disciplines of Art History and the Humanities
The objectives of The American University of Rome’s general education program are:
• to develop and strengthen basic skills which will prepare students upon graduation for a modern working environment and which will be adaptable to a rapidly evolving economy
• to cultivate an awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural, ethnic and social diversity and its importance in personal and professional decision making
• to expand the intellectual, cultural, societal, aesthetic and scientific horizons of students and enable them to discover not only the connections between academic disciplines but also the real life application of their knowledge
• to encourage active and responsible citizenship through knowledge of the forces shaping the actions of individuals and societies and through the development of critical thinking
Interdisciplinary Studies Program
Interdisciplinary studies will develop in each student the ability to:
• make meaningful and effective connections across disciplines
• identify and incorporate discussions of cultural, political, artistic and religious diversity
• critically analyze and evaluate alternative points of view
