What better place to study Italian language and culture than the Eternal City?

The Italian Studies Department offers both a Major in Italian Studies and a Minor in Italian Literature and Culture. Our extensive curriculum is custom designed for students interested in Italian language and the social, literary, and cultural history of Italy.

Just walking distance to the city’s many important historic and artistic sites, AUR’s extraordinary location is an added benefit to students of Italian language and culture. But education is never confined to the classroom or to the city itself.  The Italian Studies Department organizes field trips around Italy to further intercultural understanding and awareness. In Fall 2009 students went to Sicily as part of our 1-credit fieldtrip course Sicily Against the Mafia.

Our extensive internship line up allows further integration into Italian culture. Students earn credits while working for local Italian publishing, translation, and film & television production companies, such as Castelvecchi Editore, Atlante Edizioni, and Panorama Productions.

Whether written or spoken, ancient or modern, the study of Italian language and culture prepares students for both graduate study and for work in the international arena.
