AUR Professor is Visiting Scholar

Prof. Catherine Ramsey-Portolano, Associate Prof. and Chair of the Department of Italian Studies,was Rooney visiting scholar at Robert Morris University near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from October 24th to November 4th, 2011. As part of Robert Morris University’s Fall 2011 visiting scholar program celebrating the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification, Prof. Ramsey-Portolano was one of two visiting scholars invited from Italy.

As part of her duties as visiting scholar, Prof. Ramsey-Portolano gave a university-wide presentation entitled “Americana: Elio Vittorini’s Controversial Love for Everything American” in addition to lecturing in various courses and meeting with faculty and students. Regarding the experience, Prof. Ramsey-Portolano said, “I really enjoyed the opportunity to visit another university and discuss Italian literature and culture with RMU’s faculty and students. In addition to the enriching experience at RMU, travelling to Pittsburgh, the city where my father is from, was a chance for me to return to my familial roots.”
