Strategic Management from a NATO Perspective

Col. Sandy Guptill, US Marine and Chief of the NRCC (NATO Regional Cooperation Course) will visit with senior Business students, in their capstone course Strategic Management. The talk is open to the public. The students are studying Strategy with Prof. Kathleen Fitzsimmons, and Col. Guptill will provide a military view of strategy and discuss the development of military strategy through history (going back as far as Sun Tzu in the 5th century BC). The talk will allow students to see real-world applications of the models and frameworks they are learning to apply in class. Specifically, Col. Guptill will discuss the concepts of the strategy planning model, learning organizations, the use of diverse scenarios based on results of external environmental analysis, and the contributions of a couple of history’s greatest military strategists.

Col. Guptill directs the NATO Regional Cooperation Course, which brings together military leaders from across NATO to study and develop joint strategies, and is the U.S. Senior National Representative. A number of AUR students from various majors have served at the NATO College as Volunteer Education and Outreach Assistants in a program that allows them to see the workings of the College, and its role within NATO.
