Prof. Diane Hyett
- Director of the First Year Program and Coordinator of Special Projects
Diane Hyett runs the First Year Program and is also the Coordinator of Special Projects for the Provost’s Office at AUR. She holds an M.Sc. Econ. in International Relations Theory and a B.Sc. Econ. in International Politics, both from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
Diane teaches First Year students in their first semester at AUR. The First Year Seminar is a 3-credit course that all new first year students take in their first semester at AUR. Meeting twice a week for a total of three hours per week, the seminar covers key skills that are necessary for academic success. Through the semester students will improve their presentation, discussion and writing skills as well as learning how to do university-level research. A lot of time is also dedicated to discussions about culture and diversity. In FYS 101, students acquire essential information about the AUR and themselves that help them succeed in college.
The First Year Program (FYP) at The American University of Rome offers academic, practical and personal support to first year students to enable them to make the transition to university life in Rome and gain the greatest benefit from the opportunities offered them by AUR.
If you have any questions about the AUR First Year Program or would like to reach Diane, please email her at d.hyett@aur.edu or stop by her office on the second floor of building A. Her office extension is 249.
