Scholarships

The American University of Rome is committed to assisting students whose academic merit and financial need warrant support. AUR aims to give every student the opportunity to take advantage of a high quality education and, accordingly, offers several scholarships. All scholarships offered by AUR are renewable annually until degree requirements are met for a maximum of four years (depending which comes first).

  • A-levels: All exams passed with 2 A's and 1 B
  • Transfer Students: GPA 3.6
For first time students applying for admission to AUR.
In order to retain their Academic Merit Scholarship, students must:
  • maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA;
  • maintain a full-time enrollment status (12 credits or more);
  • receive no grade of F in any course;
  • have records free of academic or social sanctions by the University.
Faculty Scholarship: €3,500.00
  • USA: GPA 3.4 / SAT 1800-1979 / ACT 27-29
  • Italy: Media dei voti alla maturità 85
  • IB Exam: Average of the IB Exam 5.5
  • A-levels: All exams passed with 1 A and 2 B's
  • Transfer Students: GPA 3.5
For first time students applying for admission to AUR.
Alumni Scholarship: €2,500.00

For first time students applying for admission to AUR.
AUR Hardship Scholarship

For returning resident AUR students, this scholarship is offered to students who have found themselves in financial hardship and need financial assistance returning to their studies, this may also include for fall semester only a Housing Scholarship.
Students must have a 2.7 cumulative GPA taking a full-time course load in the fall (12 credits or more), does not receive a grade of F in any course, and has a record free of academic or social sanctions by the University or outstanding balances.
Student must submit:
  • an application
  • brief letter of request to the Scholarship Committee
  • a personal recommendation from a current professor
  • Student/Parent or Sponsor’s official governmental financial statement (Examples: a. FAFSA or Income Tax Statement, CUD-Italian Citizens, P60-UK citizens, Declaration de Revenues; b. Or if the above example is not applicable a statement of the student’s financial situation with the proper documentation, ie; bank statements).

AUR Cultural Diversity Scholarship

At The American University of Rome (AUR) cultural diversity is an element within our community that we praise. Each student that attends AUR brings a unique, personal set of perspectives and experiences. Furthermore the contributions of one’s ethnic background and cultural heritage to our community at AUR are celebrated and encouraged. Staying true to this belief AUR has designed a scholarship program to help recruit and retain students who are dedicated to diversity and actively promote cultural awareness. AUR determines that it is these types of students that will bring further cultural enrichment to our academic community as students and future graduates.
AUR’s Cultural Diversity Scholarships awarded to one new student each Fall semester only.

Open to all but preference will be given to students with an international educational background. Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0.
Student must submit:
  • an application
  • brief letter of request to the Scholarship Committee: How you will contribute to a more culturally diverse community
  • a personal recommendation from a current professor
In order to retain their AUR’s Cultural Diversity Scholarship, students must maintain a cumulative GPA average of 3.0 whilst at AUR to ensure that the scholarship is renewed automatically each semester until graduation or a maximum of four years.
AUR Need Based Scholarship

The scholarship will pertain only to new students in the fall and spring semesters and is renewable for a maximum of four years.
Student must submit:
  • an application
  • brief letter of request to the Scholarship Committee
  • a personal recommendation from a current professor
  • Parent or Sponsor’s official governmental financial statement (Examples: a. FAFSA or Income Tax Statement, CUD-Italian Citizens, P60-UK citizens, Declaration de Revenues).
The scholarship will be renewed annually as long as the recipient:
  • maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA taking a full-time course load in each of the fall and spring semesters (12 credits or more);
  • does not receive a grade of F in any course;
  • and has a record free of academic or social sanctions by the University or outstanding balances.
AUR Housing Scholarship

For fall semester only, new students in financial need may apply for the housing scholarship that will provide them with free room for their first semester. Students who win this scholarship must make a housing deposit of 800 euros that will be automatically credited to the following semester’s tuition if no damage is found, otherwise this is a non refundable deposit if the student chooses to withdraw from the University.
The student must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and enroll in a full-time course load (12 credits or more).
Student must submit:
  • an application
  • brief letter of request to the Scholarship Committee
  • a personal recommendation from a current professor
  • Parent or Sponsor’s official governmental financial statement (Examples: a. FAFSA or Income Tax Statement, CUD-Italian Citizens, P60-UK citizens, Declaration de Revenues).
This scholarship is not renewable.
Terry Kirk Scholarship: €5,000.00 per academic year.

This student scholarship is established in memory of Prof. Terry Rossi Kirk, Professor of Art History at AUR (1988 – 2009)
All AUR degree seeking students - applicant and enrolled - reserved for an Art History major. Applicants must reapply annually.In order to retain their Terry Kirk Scholarship, students must:
  • maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA;
  • maintain a full-time enrollment status (12 credits or more);
  • receive no grade of F in any course;
  • have records free of academic or social sanctions by the University.
Michael D'Angelo Fine Arts Scholarship: $2,500 per academic year.

This contribution is made by Vincent J. Viola in honor of his father-in-law, an accomplished artist. The American University of Rome along with Mr. Viola, in recognition of Mr. D'Angelo's achievements, will promote the study of fine arts by awarding one student each fall semester, $2,500 per academic year, annually renewable for a maximum of four years.
Students must submit a portfolio of their art along with the AUR scholarship application. Offered to only freshman or transfer students, the scholarship recipient is expected to declare a minor in Fine Arts upon first time registration. This scholarship takes into account financial need. The student will be asked to write a note to Mr. Viola each year, before the winter break to thank him for his financial help and update him on his progress (in all areas, artistic and academic).In order to retain their Michael D'Angelo Fine Arts Scholarship, students must:
  • maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA;
  • declare a minor in Fine Arts;
  • maintain a full-time enrollment status (12 credits or more).
  • receive no grade of F in any course;
  • have records free of academic or social sanctions by the University.
Italian Maturità Scholarship
Full Tuition
Voto Maturità: 100In order to retain their Italian Maturità Scholarship, students must:
  • maintain a 3.8 cumulative GPA;
  • maintain a full-time enrollment status (12 credits or more);
  • receive no grade of F in any course;
  • have records free of academic or social sanctions by the University.
Yellow Ribbon Veterans Scholarship

The yellow ribbon scholarship helps veterans who have served in the US military. Initially it was intended to actually participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program by the US Veterans Department. However, due to our foreign schools status we were not eligible to participate.
In response to that and in order for us to obtain a ‘Veteran Friendly’ school status AUR has created its own Yellow Ribbon Scholarship for those whom would have been eligible. It was calculated on the average of what AUR would have given if it were eligiable: 1000 euros a semester.
Please submit:
  • an application
  • brief letter of request to the Scholarship Committee
  • a personal recommendation
  • Certificate of Eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs confirming Yellow Ribbon eligibility.
School Specific ScholarshipsUS Community Colleges: Each of the following schools will be offered annually one 50% tuition scholarship beginning at each academic year to be awarded on a competitive basis to an applicant recommended by the College:
  • Marymount College (California)
  • Broward Community College (Florida)

  • Broome Community College (New York)
  • Meets all AUR admissions requirements and is accepted through the usual application process;
  • Holds or will earn an associate’s degree from the recommending College with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
If more than one qualified applicant is recommended by the College, the Director of US Admissions will make the award. The Director of US Admissions will arrange for at least one campus visit each year to each of these community colleges.
In order to retain their School Specific Scholarships, students must:
  • maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA;
  • maintain a full-time enrollment status (12 credits or more);
  • receive no grade of F in any course;
  • have records free of academic or social sanctions by the University.

General financial aid requirements: All awards are limited to students enrolled full-time and are in good academic standing, by meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), and not have defaulted on previous education loans.
