Welcome to The American University of Rome’s website. Here you will find all you need to know about our institution and its programs. Whether you are a potential student, a parent or a fellow academic, I hope that what you see will generate in you the desire to come and see for yourself.

The American University of Rome (AUR) was founded in 1969 with a motto — “Rome is our Classroom” — and the goal of introducing the intellectual and historical treasures of the Eternal City to American students.

Today, The American University of Rome is an accredited American style university that offers BA, BS and AA degrees to a very international student body. In addition, AUR hosts study-abroad students from American colleges and universities for year-long, semester and summer programs. And it continues to be unique thanks to its location and the programs it offers.

Our diverse student body, representing over 30 countries, experiences each day what it means to live and work across cultures. Students are trained by highly qualified international academics in the fundamental portable skills of language, communication and critical thinking that will allow them to continue to learn and thrive in our changing world.

Our students learn in small, interactive classes while exploring and discovering life in this uniquely stimulating city, and their experience at The American University of Rome is life transforming.
