Provost – About Maurizo Marmorstein
Maurizio Marmorstein is the Provost (Chief Academic Officer) at The American University of Rome where he also holds a faculty position in the department of Italian Studies. Maurizio joined AUR in 1996 from his position as assistant coordinator of Study Abroad for Rutgers University in Florence, Italy. Besides teaching Italian Language and Literature at AUR he also served as Study Abroad coordinator before undertaking the role of Provost.
Maurizio previously spent over thirty years teaching Italian Language, Literature and Culture at several universities in the United States including the University of California at Santa Cruz, Cabrillo College, and Rutgers the State University of New Jersey. After leaving the Provost position in 2002 at The American University of Rome, Maurizio chaired the Italian Studies department for six years before being asked once again to serve as Provost.
Maurizio holds an MA in Language from Middlebury College and was a doctoral student in Italian Studies at Rutgers, finishing all but his dissertation in Italian theatre and film, until being called to work in the film industry as a story editor and screenwriter, an academic occupation and passion he holds to this very day. His works include plays and screenplays on the Italian and Italian-American experience, many of which have won awards in international film and screenwriting festivals. His plays have been produced both in California and New York.
