The James Walston Fund
With the initiative of alumnae Sallie Pisch (International Relations, 2010) and Cait Bagby (International Relations, 2009), The American University of Rome is now offering a scholarship in memory of James Walston, Professor of International Relations & Global Politics at AUR from 1990 to 2014.
The James Walston Fund will support AUR degree-seeking students enrolled in the International Relations & Global Politics program. Funding will go towards the numerous field trips organized by the department which follow two objectives – to study the international organizations in major EU cities (e.g. Brussels, Geneva and Vienna) and to gain firsthand experience in areas of conflict, separatism, nationalism or development (recent field trips were organized in Kosovo, Basque country and Ghana).
To Professor Walston, these trips were an essential component of an International Relations education because they provided students an experience with theoretical and historical training. Through these field trips, students don’t just gain knowledge of the real world but create bonds as a community by sharing a common passion of international affairs.
