Dr. Andrew Thompson The AUR Director of Assessment and Institutional Research Dr Andrew Thompson
Director of Assessment
and Institutional Research
The American University of Rome

Andrew Thompson joined AUR in June 2007 from the University of Wales, Newport in Great Britain where he held positions as Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching in the School of Education and a faculty position in English Literature. Before this, he spent ten years in Italy where he taught English Literature, Language and Translation in the Facoltà di lingue e letterature straniere moderne at the University of Genoa. He gained his experience in outcomes assessment and institutional research within the British university system. He led and coordinated quality assurance and enhancement across the Schools of Education and Humanities and Science at Newport for many years, and played a full part in strategic planning, resource allocation and institutional renewal at school and university level.

Andrew’s published works in the field of English Literature include a monograph, George Eliot and Italy: literary, cultural and political influences from Dante to the Risorgimento, an edition of the previously unpublished George Eliot “Romola” holograph notebook held in the Bodleian Library, Oxford, and several articles on nineteenth-century English literature. He has also published articles on computer-assisted learning. He holds a faculty position in English Literature at The American University of Rome.
