Surveys at AUR

The American University of Rome administers several institution wide surveys – to improve teaching and learning and to continue to build enhancements to the AUR experience, based on feedback from our stakeholders – students, faculty, staff, alumni, Board of Trustees.

A brief Description of the survey instruments currently in use and results are given below:

AUR Life Survey
This is a new survey at AUR and is aimed at gathering information about all aspects of the service we provide to students – how our administration meets the needs and expectations of students, how our environment is viewed, how well they settled into life here in Rome through Orientation both pre- and post – arrival. This is administered by our Student Services office with the Provost’s office and goes out to all students in week 10 of each term, from Fall 2005. This replaces a previous survey instrument which we used called the Program Survey.

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
This National survey is administered by the National Survey of Student Engagement, Indiana University (see http://www.indiana.edu/~nsse/). Its purpose is to enable institutions to gain insight into student participation and active engagement in academic, extra-curricular, co-curricular, and social programs and assists institutions in gathering data on these areas as well as the students own personal growth whilst studying at the given University. We started these surveys in the Spring of 2004 and have conducted them in Spring 2005, and aim to in Spring 2006. We shall then undertake this survey on a 3 year cycle. It is currently undertaken by all First year and Senior students who are degree- seeking students here. One of the reasons we undertake this survey here at AUR is to see how we measuring up to students perception of an American Education and the surevy is benchmarked. However as we are not in the USA we have to date not been able to take part in this comparative gauge but hope to be benchmarked in the Spring 2006 report.

Senior’s Survey
The Seniors Survey is an internally administered survey conducted by Student Services to gather feedback from the Grdauating class of each academic year.

Below are examples of the survey together with reports from 2004, and 2005.
